Extra Meat

On Friday, I had lunch at a small ramen place just down the street from the Kyoto University campus. The menu was all in Japanese (as is typical at ramen restaurants), and the proprietor spoke no English, so I was proud to be able to decipher enough of the vertical signage (in a mixture of hiragana and kanji) to order my food. I worked out that one of the options had extra meat, so I went for that one. When the food arrived, I realized that this place took 'extra meat' seriously. Indeed there was so much meat that I couldn't see either the ramen noodles or the bowl...!
