Gift Melon

The other day, while out shopping, Sage was excited to find a 'gift melon.' Melons are an especially popular gift in Japan, and more upmarket department stores will sell fancily wrapped specimens for exorbitant sums. Our local supermarket had a more basic approach to melon wrapping, consisting of little more than slapping on a pink bow. Nonetheless, the example Sage is holding still carried a hefty price tag: 5,000 yen, or almost 50 dollars:
