While wandering the gardens of Heian Shrine yesterday, I came across a French-speaking couple on a bridge with their young daughter, who was throwing pieces of bread into the pond for the ducks:
In England or the U.S. if you do this for long enough you just get more and more ducks. Here in Japan, you get ducks followed by koi:
A few minutes' later a family of turtles joined the party:
Just when I thought the species count had reached its maximum, I noticed a grey heron lurking under the bridge and popping out for the occasional bread chunk:
