As part of a day trip today to the far western edge of Kyoto, we visited a serene and beautiful temple called Shobo-ji. The hand-washing place consisted of an enormous moss-covered stone basin, fed by a bamboo water pipe. It was very picturesque, but what caught our eye was the small frog that had take up residence in the mouth of the bamboo pipe:
When we came back later after touring the rest of the temple grounds, the frog had moved from the pipe and found an area on the rim of the basin against which it could camouflage itself:
