Cello Temples

The studio where Sage goes for her cello lessons is in a small house on a small side-street in a town called Takatsuki, which is about halfway between Kyoto and Osaka. Until this week, we had not realized that right beyond where the studio is located is a whole complex of Buddhist temples, spread out across the adjoining neighborhood.

An interesting feature of these temples were the palm trees and other tropical-looking vegetation, reminiscent of our time in the far-southern Okinawan island of Ishigaki:





There seemed to be three separate temple compounds, each with its own entrance and its own temple bell. The third one that we strolled around also had an impressive pagoda structure (visible in the background of the fourth photo below).
